Speech entitled "Hellenism of America today" by Professor Sotirios Rekoumis from Chicago
The Greek Alumni of American Universities organized on Monday, November 3, 2014, at 7: 00m.m in the roof top of the Hellenic American Union, on 22 Massalias Street, Kolonaki, Athens, a speech entitled "Hellenism of America today" by Professor Sotirios Rekoumis from Chicago. Professor Rekoumis refered to the changes in the younger generations of Greek Americans, the ever decreasing rates of marriages among people of Greek origin, their education, the Greek Orthodox Church, the Greek language etc. Professor Rekoumis has taught in the American public education, along with the teaching of the Greek language. He is the radio producer of “Greek time” in Chicago, which broadcasts daily, for four hours, continuously since 1985, and publishes the monthly Greek newspaper "Diaspora" since1989.
The Greek Alumni of American Universities conferred to Professor Rekoumis in this event an honorary award for his contribution to the preservation of the Greek language in Chicago.
The Greek-American soprano Nicole Mitroussias sang Greek and American songs.
